Full Set Up Ukulele Site, Worth the Wait?

...I had to take it to a local luthier to have the ends filed smooth. It might have been from my style of play but my finger nails would get caught between the fret wire and neck. Again a good set up will increase your playing enjoyment. Good luck!
That is strictly caused by the fretboard shrinking over time. My repair guy Eric's Guitar in Van Nuys, CA says it's important to keep the fretboard 'lubricated' by wiping it with a fretboard conditioner from time to time, especially if you're in a dry environment.

I ordered a uke the same exact day as you and it just shipped. So be patient, I guess. The full set-up is worth the extra time. I’ve ordered two other ukuleles from them, and the set-up was absolutely perfect.
Mine ships Monday. They finished today, but not in time for the delivery pickup... I solely blame you and your ukulele setup!!! How could you do this to me... a "well-known member" to a "well-known member" no less

“Well-known” and apparently notorious! 🤣

Yes.. next question!
On a serious note, ukes are made of wood and wood changes over time, even if the factory or luthier does a great job, there is no guarantee that it has not change since. Folks like the uke site and mims give it last look and that is worth it

not sure the set up guys would be going to NAMM, but maybe
Joel went to NAMM in years past.

Yes, it's worth the wait. I have them lower the height to help with my arthritis in my hands. The ukes came with lower strings, and without any buzz. Just right.

I actually had a tenor rejected by the setup folks because they found a tiny crack near the neck/body joint when they inspected it. They called and said that is is very small, and doesn't affect the sound or play. That it may never grow, but to be safe, they were going to send it back. They called me and confirmed that was my preference.

Sharp fret ends can occur during shipping. The air in the plane's holds get very dry and cold. Not to mention the delivery trucks in the winter.

You can go online and see the status of your uke at the TUS website.

I assuage my impatience by playing other ukes and looking at pictures of my new acquisition. ;)

I’ve ordered from these fine folks before. The Ukulele site are always easy to work with. But this is the first time I decided to take advantage of a free full set up. They mentioned it could take up to 10 to 14 days to complete. I ordered a lovely uke from them on 1/21. It is now the eve of 2/8 and it still has not shipped. Does anybody have experience with this? Is it worth the wait? I’m starting to regret my decision 🫠
The wait isn't worth it for me, and neither is paying extra. When the setup was included in the price, I bought several from the Uke Site. I've bought cheap and not so cheap ukes with and without setups. To me, it doesn't matter. If the setup is really bad, I can adjust it. The big-name companies seem to turn out well-adjusted instruments.

While this thread has been overwhelmingly pro wait for setup, I have had some feedback similar to yours. Honestly, I hope everyone else is right, since I've already waited 3 weeks 😄 but I hear you, I have bought many ukes without a set up that have been fine. That said I'm hoping that I can really tell the difference… like when you wear comfortable shoes all day, but it always feels even better when you take em off when you get home… that kinda deal 🤞🏽

I've bought half-a-dozen ukes in the past year - all US$600-plus - only one was set up properly! (And it still needed a fix for a different problem).
This becomes costly when luthiers are consequently needed. More pertinently, not many luthiers are ukulele specialists and their perspectives are often guitar-orientated, I discovered. So personally I'd wait 6 weeks for a properly set up and inspected ukulele!

You won't be able to tell a difference if you didn't have the instrument before it was modified. There is also a chance that for your purpose it may be worse than before. There are also threads with reports of ukes that were mangled by setup. Though I am not sure if HMS was one of the problem setup stores.

Merl!! Hey hey, lets not harsh the vibe haha… Ive already waited 3.5 weeks. You could just say when I play it, you will feel like you have a belly full of hot cocoa and roasted marshmallows…

But i gear you, perhaps folks get botched repair work, but I don't believe the prestigious ukulele site shop would mangle this uke and then ship without telling me without telling me.

Oh y’all it shipped today and arrives Wednesday 🙌🏽💫

I got my Pono Kalele mahogany baritone today. It was set up perfectly. No complaints. Worth the wait. Enjoy your new ukulele week!

I am absolutely impatient….I just paid for the rush. I got a damn good trade value anyway, so what’s an extra $50 anyway.
