BPM. Starting with a metronome.

A recent post got me wanting to try using a metronome again. Is there a common way or starting point for determining the bpm for a recorded song? I realize it isn't locked in for how I want to play, but I'd like to know what the original was.

Just tried googling the bpm for a song I like at random and it worked out great. Have not tried this before.

My favorite metronome app- Tempo has a feature where you can tap and it will tell you what that BPM is. It can be very helpful.

I Google the song BPM all the time. There are a few websites that have good databases for popular recordings. The tap-tap feature on metronome apps can also get me in the ballpark.
