I notice there seems to be a wide variation in top of the line Baritone Ukulele's. I would love a Martin because I love Martin. But is it worth the extra money? Are there any sleepers out there? In other words, great quality like a Martin but without the reputation.

I do need the loudest and best sound I can get. I will be tuning my baritone like a banjo to play at jams. Thanks.

David Webber of Webber guitars makes a really nice bari. I've owned a vintage Martin and now a Webber.

Martin does have the fastest, low actioned thin neck I have ever played. Haven't found any other bari that comes close to it.

Vintage Martin baris in good condition can't be beat. Webbers come a close second for me. Most others had a fatter slower neck and the sound sounded muted.

If you want to tune it like a banjo you'd be better off with a Tenor guitar - which has four strings but a longer neck intended for a banjo tuning.
