Closed and Opened Circle Chords?

This is one of the charts I look at when practicing:

There are others and they differ from each other sometimes that's why I look at more than one. But on that one ^ you see some in black and white circles. What do they mean? Examples like Dbm, Dm7, etc. When I play those chords I place my fingers according to the black circles since I don't know what the white ones mean.
