Glad you were able to sell it. I’ve been looking at/listening to your photos and sound samples for a couple weeks and it’s a beautiful instrument. I’m budgeting for a nice instrument next year after I develop more skills and a better idea of the size and tone wood that I prefer- but yours was...
Thanks. This thread has taught me! I first thought that my uke had a problem to be fixed, then I despaired that it’s just fatally flawed, to now accepting that it just is.
Thanks for this post and responses. My Ohana mahogany concert CK-38 has a similar dead spot that's been starting to bother me a lot as I get to be a less-terrible player.
I noticed it on the C string between 3rd and 5th fret (D# to F). I thought it was due to a fret problem at 6 or 7, but...
I was joking... but what if?
The problem is mostly on the C string between D# and F
I have a low G so D# on G is 8th fret. The low G rings great up to... 8th fret.
Is it possible that the wood is just muddy at a certain frequency?
I think I need professional help. I'll start with a luthier...
I don't see how the nut could be the problem. It has great sustain with open strings. The problem only occurs when fretting 3rd to 5th fret.
Is a tiny amount of camber to the neck a fatal flaw? I can't see it with a straight edge.
Thanks both.
Already tried with two shims. I think it would have to be raised a lot to correct the issue- to get 0.25 mm (0.01 inch) more clearance at the 6th fret while fretting the 4th would require raising the saddle 2.5 mm (0.1 inch)
That's not to say the saddle isn't a possible problem...
Looking for a luthier near my location in southern LA county or northern Orange County. I had a tiny bit of work done at 13th Street Guitars in Huntington Beach and was very happy. Island Bazaar has a luthier available but I don't know anything about him. Any experience with either or other...
Actually it was a bit overwhelming but I went in saying "next year, when I deserve it, I want to buy a Hawaiian-made solid Koa soprano uke." I ended up being very impressed with the aNueNue and Pono models, including laminate ones. Mango and cedar tonewoods sounded way better than I expected...
That's exactly right. When I was there last month I was advised if I was interested in something particular (or a size, tonewood, etc) to let them know and they would bring it over from the warehouse. Kalei was very helpful and asked questions to narrow down my interest. He also suggested...
I visited The Ukulele Site (store) last month thinking I would only love the Hawaii-made Koa ukes, but the aNueNue concert Cedar Bird was probably my favorite. It felt comfortable and sounded great when I crudely plucked the strings. It sounded much better when Kalei played it.
For those with the base model 10" iPad and ForScore, are you able to have it in landscape orientation showing full width and use a foot button to advance by 1/2 page at a time?
I would get last year's 9th generation (i13 chip) ipad as I don't have budget for the newer or bigger iPads. Prime Day...
I had originally planned on putting them on a different uke but decided to put them on my favorite.
I also have a KA-SSTU-S slimline soprano. It is lighter at 340 grams so it's balanced even more head-heavy-- balance point is at fret 9. I suspect that swapping out for these lightweight...
