I recently obtained a Vintage Venezuelan cuatro. I am an intermediate beginner owning a tenor and concert ukulele.. I originally wanted to find a teacher in the Phoenix area to teach cuatro but have been unable to find one who specializes and is familiar with cuatro music. The cuatro that I have has a really beautiful sound .I have a dilemma. What are the pros and cons of buying new strings and playing the cuatro with ukulele strings as a ukulele, if it sounds good as a cuatro?. Has anyone done this and what is their opinion. Thank you in advance for answering a very basic question.

Well, I have a tenor uke tuned as a cuatro and also a guitalele with a low reentrant string. I dont play "cuatro music" on them though. To me, it's just another voicing option. So if you want to play your cuatro as a uke, I dont see any problem with that
