    Hi from Los Angeles

Hi Peggie from LA. I have been to Singapore 4 times and love it. My first ukulele was a gift so I won't be giving it away, but I have given other ukes away. I also love cheesecakes. I hope you love playing the ukulele. Have fun on this forum, you will find many nice people here. Mike

Low G Nut and saddle upgrade

If you do it yourself, it's worth it. If you pay someone, it depends on the cost. There will definitely be a difference in tone, whether it is an improvement is up to the listener. Ebony nuts and saddles are nice as well, and you won't have to breathe in nasty bone fumes. I took off all the...

    Fret Ruler Templates

a straight edge, a set of caliper dividers and a pencil works well too. Rule of 18 makes a great fretboard. Make your own. Save it on a board for future use. Then just transfer the lines to your new fretboard.

Questions to ask for a custom build

I think if you haven't heard that luthier's ukes, you must ask for sound samples to see what her ukes sound like in general. Wouldn't want to be going into such a large purchase deaf.

Do ukulele players have favorite key signatures, for ease of playing?

I mostly play in C, F, Bb and Eb, because that's usually where my voice sounds best, depending on the melody notes. But I try to learn to play every tune using two or three different inversions, so sliding a chord progression up or down a fret or two allows me to play in every key.

    Uke related stickers

I am surprised that Martin didn't send me a sticker with my T1K, but Mim sent me an I❤️Ukes sticker in the bag. Although there is no mention of a uke, Just strings sent me a sticker along with my ukulele strings order that is much smaller in size than the one they sent me with my banjo strings...

Your better and wilfully retained mass manufactured Sopranos

For me, that would be my, mass manufactured in the 1920s, Martin Style 0. I can't imagine getting rid of this uke. I hope whoever gets it after I die takes good care of it and enjoys playing it. Other than my Martins, I don't have any other mass marketed ukes in my small, but growing collection...

    curved fretwire on uke

I don't think things will turn out too great if you already glued in the frets. How thick did you leave the fretboard? I just made a fretboard that is 7/64" thick, and my Martin Soprano is 3/32" thick. If you have enough fretboard left over after removing and replaining frets, it could still...

    curved fretwire on uke

a pair of locking C- Clamps will probably help flatten out the radius. I use them to seat my frets and they work perfectly. Don't glue your frets in before you flatten the radiused frets, or carefully remove the frets and put in flat frets.

    Strings Dead and Dying Strings

I've only been playing a few years and I am still trying to figure out which strings sound best on each instrument. In theory, I change strings when the sound quality degrades enough that I can notice that the tone is undesirable. But in practice, I change them when I get a new set of strings...

    How large is your Ukeverse?

My ukeverse got a bit smaller with the closing of Ukulele Cosmos. I gave a uke that I made to my brother, which he hasn't been playing. Aside from UU, my only public engagements with the ukulele are each afternoon when I take the cat out to the front yard with my uke and strum for about 15...

    Today's Chuckle

I called an old school friend who had become an engineer, and asked what was he doing. He explained that he was working on "Aqua-thermal treatment of ceramics, aluminium and steel within a constrained environment". I was very impressed...... Then on further inquiring, I learned that he was...

    Today's Chuckle

We had a power cut at our house this morning and my PC, laptop, TV, DVD, iPad and my new surround sound music system all shut down. Then I discovered that my cell phone battery was dead and to top it off it was raining outside, so I couldn't play golf. I went into the kitchen to make coffee and...

    Indian (Desi) Food!

I had a can of coconut milk sitting around that I bought to make some jamaican rice, but I started making Indian food instead, so I forgot about it. It's been staring at me lately so I decided to make Paneer Korma for the first time last night from this recipe: Paneer Korma. Another recipe from...
