    Is this a crack?

Odd, it looks like they align with the edges of the neck block. I think cracks but don’t know why it would like that. Does the neck joint feel solid?

(SOLVED) Is this a Kamaka HF-3 or HF-4?

I found a 2006 baritone that sold on Reverb. It had 19 total frets. I think you are looking at a Tenor. https://reverb.com/item/74845969-kamaka-ukulele-baritone-2000-s-gloss?show_sold=true

    Peter Lieberman Maui Music

If you're not aware, that last response was from the man who put the number on the label. You can't get more definitive than that. Thanks for verifying the system urcuzzn.

    Peter Lieberman Maui Music

Here's my understanding (but I could be wrong on some of it). sk = soprano, koa 9 = 1999 5 = May 296 = consecutive number

Advice Wanted on Older Uke Restoration/Cleanup

For odd size washers try McMaster-Carr (McMaster dot com). They even carry some leather washers. Good luck with the restoration.

    HI Sessions for Maui

Just wanted to share that HI Sessions will be hosting a little 9-hour live stream tonight on YouTube to benefit the people of Maui. I haven't seen the list of artists but I'm sure it will have some of the top performers in Hawaii.

    UAS - By The Numbers

I bought my first ukulele in 1998 during my honeymoon in Hawaii. I played it occasionally but it spent most of its time in the case. We went back to Hawaii for our 20th anniversary and I caught the uke bug. It’s now been 25 years and I’m awaiting delivery of uke number 25. Here's the timeline...

    Wanted Kamaka Tenor Case

Hugo Helmer in Burlington, WA shows them in stock on-line ($145). Oddly they show the old Kamaka logo. I don't know if they are new old-stock cases or just old pictures. Shipping cost is unknown. If your interested, just call the store.

New Uke Day (NUD) Fraudulent Sellers on Reverb??

I reported the listing to Reverb this morning when I posted it here. I don't know if they took it down or if someone "bought" it. Either way, the listing is gone (for now).

Wanted WTB Pre-fire Maui music tenor deluxe

It's the other way around. The factory burned. The pre-fire builds are from the factory. The post-fire are from Peter's one-man shop.

Another interesting find Martin 2K find Made in USA stamp 1920

Very nice acquisition! Looks to be in great condition. The Walsh/King book briefly mentions the "Made in USA" stamp being used on ukuleles for export (page 105) but doesn't give a date range. I have a Soprano Style 0, 1927-32 (black simplex tuners) with the stamp. There is a sticker on the...

    Kamaka dating question

Kamaka introduced the white label in 1969. Yours has the older tuners. I believe Kamaka changed over to the Schaller tuners with the thumbscrews in the mid to late 70's. So... 1970's

String recommendations for 19" scale tenor?

I currently have Aquila Lava baritone re-entrant GCEA (117U) on my 19" scale tenor. I've got it tuned up to GCEA and so far I'm happy with them. I tried some other tenor strings and the A would break on me. Oh, and according to the Aquila website, the Lava GCEA Baritone and Concert sets are...

    SpruceHouse ukes

If you can check it out, I’d say go for it. Being able to try out different instruments whether you buy or not is still a learning opportunity. I have a 2017 SpruceHouse Concert (maple with red cedar top). I bought it used (on-line) and it was quite affordable for a US hand-built instrument. For...
