"Stray Cat Strut" on local TV

I had the honor of playing with some of my friends from The Midnight Ukulele Society on one of our local Richmond, VA TV stations. Definitely one of the highlights of uke-playing "career" so far (I'm the guy playing the Kanile'a). Enjoy...

    Creating Bass Lines

It's funny, I bought that pedal a couple of weeks ago and ran into the same problems. Plus I didn't like how it tracked the uke notes in general (in other words, not very well). I bought it from Amazon and promptly returned it the next day. I'm trying to decide if I want to spend the big bucks...

    U-Bass questions

I have that amp too and have used it for my bass in a pinch. Coincidently, the bass player in my uke band had his bass amp die during our farmer's market gig on Sunday. He used another uke player's Fishman Loundbox Mini Charge for the last few songs of our set. It seemed to work okay. Not as...

    U-Bass questions

For a bass amp, I'd recommend what I use: a Fender Rumble 40. Super lightweight, great sound, relatively inexpensive, perfect for playing in front of 20-30 people and it has a line out to go to a mixing board if you're playing in a bigger place that has a PA.

The Magic Fluke Company Appreciation thread

My Fluke is a concert size, though I have a tenor Fluke on order (so, somebody please buy the Soprano Flea I have for sale here (hint, hint))! As noted above, size is a personal preference. The concert strings may be lower in tension. Maybe. Just go with whatever you feel comfortable with. I...

The Magic Fluke Company Appreciation thread

Dang! Trying to figure out why I love my Fluke so much when I have "nicer" ukes lying around. I love the barky sound, the way it sets in my arm, the feel of the neck, the portability (played it everywhere from Walt Disney World to Amish country) and anyone who sees it asks: what is THAT? I'm...

What's your least favorite Beatles song?

"What's the New Mary Jane". Turns out there was a good reason it was left off the White Album and we had to wait until Anthology 3 to hear it. It stinks! Like nails on a chalkboard.

    Electrification questions

Huh! That's not been my experience with the AD-2 at all. In fact, it's a pedal that I love so much that it always stays on. It's not so much a super powerful tone shaper (and definitely not a replacement for an amp's EQ section), but a subtle way of eliminating offending frequencies that cause...

    Open gear tuner maintenance/lube

I use a product called Neolube (Neolube #2, actually) which is a graphite/alcohol solution. It's super thin, like water, and I brush it on the tuner gears. It works!
