Add a finger!

I learned an exercise in Uke magazine, whereby one adds a finger when playing chords to give extended chords. C is 0003 of course but if you add a finger to the second string at the first fret (0013) you get Csus4 etc.

I, understand how adding a finger will get you another chord. But essentially, that's what chording is, adding fingers to the fretboard. So, I feel as if I'm missing something here. Is there more to it?

Its just an example of how you can subtly change a chord by adding one finger.

I'm with you. I love easy chord variations. I find that a lot of the tabs that I play from are very basic... designed to be simple to play and with the intent that someone will be singing over it. I don't sing. So, I like to embellish the chords and strum patterns to pick up more of the melody that should be there.

Also, it just sounds cool!

Little one-finger moves can get you from D to D6, D7, DMaj7, D7Sus4

Or A, AMin, A7, AMaj7... several variants of G and F. DMin and DMin6, DMin7

It's just fun to bounce around and add some variety, spice things up!
